Lilly & Sweetie
Five year old Lilly has been diagnosed with infantile autism and began equine-assisted therapy in the autumn of 2020. Over the course of three months, the film observes her journey — from the first tentative meeting with the horse, through moments of conflict, to a gentle sense of release. In her interaction with the therapy horse Sweetie, Lilly is confronted with herself in a new way. She discovers the challenges of cooperation, but also how far her own courage and boundaries can expand.
The short film (17 min) is an intimate and emotional portrait of a child living with the complexities of her diagnosis, who, through the presence of the horse, finds a rare space of freedom. It quietly asks: what happens when we let go of own expectations and demands, and simply meet another being as we are?
